I’ve always been envious of photographers who produce stunning photographs in stunning locations. An antelope just escaping a lions claws on a riverbank in the Serengeti or a giant humpback whale leaping from the ocean with every molecule of sea spray captured in high definition. I just don’t have the will nor patience to sit in the desert or a ship for days on end in the hope that special moment might or might not happen.
Knowing my luck I’d slip, make a noise and the lion’s chasing me instead of the antelope.
The second reason photography isn’t really for me is the plethora of settings – ISO – f-stop – frame size – shutter speed – FPS – resolution – focal length – it just goes on. I’m lazy and tend to glaze over reading lengthy instructions or watching complex long you tube reviews.
So, why am I writing this?.
Well, yonks ago I bought my first SLR. A Nikon D70 with a 70 – 200mm lens. I pointed it at things and attempted to capture the moment. I then upgraded to a D7000 and about 5 years ago a D810 with a 150 – 600mm lens, There were to be no lions in the Serengeti or whales in the Antarctic but I could at least take decent shots of things that stood still, even if they were further away!
Since we live in the country side our garden attracts a range of birds and animals. Even my limited skills with semi-decent equipment brought some nice pictures.

Movement has always been a challenge for me. Trying to capture birds in flight and in focus. I did manage to capture a nice mallard picture in my neighbours pond with the D70 a few years ago.

I’ll share more photos each Wednesday and hope to share some news on my new addition next Week too. I’ll also update you on my attempt to get my D810 repaired after it was knocked off its tripod a while back.
I’d love you to share your photos from around the world so drop them by in the comments.
